What you will visit in Luxor:
Valley of the Kings from Hurghada
The West Bank
The Valley of the Kings is where the pharaohs were buried and hoped to meet god in the afterlife.
The Valley of the Kings contains many of the tombs of pharaohs from the New Kingdom, including the tomb of Tutankhamun, discovered in 1920, almost untouched, which is perhaps the best known to most of us non-archaeologists.
Most of the tombs are cut into limestone and follow a pattern of three corridors, an antechamber, and a sunken sarcophagus chamber.
Lunch
Get your lunch in a lovely restaurant in Luxor.
The Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut is located beneath the cliffs at Deir el-Bahari on the west bank of the Nile, near the Valley of the Kings.
The architect Senemut designed the mortuary temple, which was dedicated to the sun god Amon-Ra
The temple is located next to the mortuary temple of Mentuhotep II, which served both as an inspiration and later as a quarry.
The Hatshepsut Temple is one of the incomparable monuments of ancient times.
The Colossi of Memnon
Two giant statues make up the Colossi of Memnon.
Most visitors get a glimpse of them on their way to the Valley of the Kings, but it is worth a stop to see them up close.
The east bank
Lunch & Karnak temple
Continue driving to the east bank of Luxor to enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant.
Karnak temple
Then, moving on to visit the spectacular Temple of Karnak. In ancient times, Karnak had the name Ibet-Isot, the most revered place.
The temple complex of Karnak was the most important place of worship in ancient Egypt. Karnak Temple is famous for its Hypostyle Hall in the Great Temple of Amun.
The Temple of Karnak, dedicated to the god Amun, is the largest in the ancient world and also one of the most important temples of ancient Egypt.
Construction began on the Karnak temple complex in the 16th century BC, with construction continuing over the next 2,000 years as each successive pharaoh added to the site’s epic scale.
The Temple of Karnak is located on the right bank, relative to the source of the Nile, and its construction parallels ancient Egyptian history. Indeed, it is a superposition of successive structures, so much so that it is now almost impossible to identify the original nucleus, dating back to King Senusret I of the 12th Dynasty. It consisted of three small rooms oriented east-west, no longer existing, and of which only the thresholds remain, located in the area behind the sanctuary of the “sacred boat” of Philip Arrhidaeus and near the “Kiosk of Senusret I,” rebuilt with components found as fill material from the Third Pylon (Seti I, 19th Dynasty).
