Sharm el Sheikh to Petra Tour, Jordan
It is a historical and archaeological city in the Jordanian governorate of Ma’an that is known for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system.
It was established sometime around the 6th century BC as the capital city of the Nabateans.
It is a symbol of Jordan and its most-visited tourist attraction.
It lies on the slope of Mount Hor in a basin among the mountains that form the eastern flank of the Arabah (Wadi Araba)
Visit the Petra archaeological site:
We depart from the hotel very early in the morning and travel by bus to Taba, then continue to Aqaba by ferry (about 45 minutes). From Aqaba, we take you by air-conditioned bus for almost two hours to Petra, where an expert guide will be waiting to accompany you throughout the journey.
The visits
The Siq
We enter Petra on foot through the Siq (canyon), a narrow, winding gorge over 1 kilometer in length.
We visit the Great Treasury (Al-Khazneh Farun), the Roman Theater, and the Royal Tombs (the Rainbow Tomb is a must for photographers).
as well as hundreds of monuments, tricliniums, and obelisks, all carved from the multi-shaded rose-red sandstone.
A walk through the colonnade of the Roman-Byzantine brings us to the city center for lunch.
Afterward, we continue our tour to the hill of Al-Habis (crowned with a Crusader-era fort) for a breathtaking panoramic view
of deep gullies and uniquely colored rock formations.
“Al Khazneh,” the Treasury
The Treasury, located in the Siq, is the most famous building in Petra. Designed in the Hellenistic style, it is almost 40 meters high and 25 meters wide.
It is Khazneh Al-Firaun, or the Pharaoh’s Treasury, as the Bedouins called it. It was, in fact, one of many rock tombs.
It may have been created for the Nabatean king Aretas IV, who ruled in the first century BC.
The Roman Theater
Discovered in 1961, excavated by American archaeologists, it was carved directly from the rock in the first century. During its construction, there were several burial chambers leading behind the massive rock.
These tombs were used by ordinary inhabitants in ancient times. It has 33 rows of seats for approximately 5,000 spectators.
The “King’s Wall” Tombs
North of the theater is the “King’s Wall.” Halfway up, there are 13 monumental tombs aligned together. Due to their size and decoration, they have been interpreted as royal tombs. These include the “Palace Tomb,” the largest structure ever found in Petra; the “Corinthian Tomb”; the “Soldier’s Tomb”; and the “Urn Tomb,” which dates back to the second or third century AD, with its rock-hewn hall containing three niches.
Lunch
You will enjoy a delicious lunch at a 5-star restaurant.
Have lunch, then drive back to Aqaba at 6:45 pm, and then take the ferry at 7:30 pm back to Taba; drive back to Sharm, and arrive after midnight.
